Writing, Project Management
Construction Proposals (RFQ/RFPs)
CLIENT: Oelrich Construction
MY ROLE: Writer, Marketing Manager
For four years, I prepared a myriad of proposal submissions for a top commercial construction management firm in the A/E/C industry.
As Marketing Manager at Oelrich Construction, I managed the firm’s responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs). Established in 2004, Oelrich Construction is a commercial construction management company with 30+ team members. With offices in the Gainesville and Orlando markets, Oelrich serves a diverse array of education, government, commercial, healthcare, and public infrastructure clients.
I was responsible for producing tailored, comprehensive proposals that conformed to client requirements and corporate standards. My role involved:
Working with senior management to prepare a broad range of RFQ/RFP solicitation responses. Project solicitations ranged from contracts under $150,000 to jobs worth more than $25 million.
Developing 120+ proposal submittals and multiple client shortlist presentations. Served both public sector and private sector clients.
Interviewing internal subject matter experts and wrote technical approach narrative copy tailored to each client’s unique needs. Exercised strong writing, proofreading, and editorial abilities.
Composing proposals using Adobe InDesign and developed charts/graphics. Collaborated with graphic design and estimating staff as needed.
Coordinating RFQ/RFP print production, tabs, binding, and delivery.
Maintaining corporate database of staff resumes, project data sheets, and photography.
Monitoring procurement websites for project solicitation leads. Tracked proposal cycles through every stage (including project leads, formal solicitations, shortlists, presentations, and scoring/evaluations).
Demonstrating meticulous quality control and adherence to the client’s prescribed proposal requirements. Small errors could lead to immediate disqualification of a contractor’s proposal.
I served as Marketing Manager at Oelrich Construction from 2016 through 2020. (Redacted non-proprietary work samples can be made available upon request.)
The pictured Marketing Intake Checklist graphic is a personal reference guide I designed for reviewing client solicitation requirements. The checklist demonstrates my methodical approach to completing each RFQ/RFP package. I demonstrated an ability to consistently meet high-pressure deadlines, handle confidential information, and effectively collaborate with staff across all departments in a fast-paced environment.
Roadwork Writing Sample
While not an RFQ, a recent sample of the written work I produced at Oelrich Construction was published in a trade group publication. The piece highlighted an award-winning $9.8 million road reconstruction project my firm completed for the City of Ocoee. I interviewed our company leadership and the city’s public works director to compile this feature.
Oelrich Construction sponsored this profile in a trade publication published by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Central Florida. The article was published in July/August 2019.
